Wesley’s Career Journey
With a great love of food and a deep desire to make a difference in the lives of young people, Wes enjoys his vocation as a Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) Teacher. Wes uses his education in family dynamics, interpersonal skills, foods and nutrition, family resource management, child development, and teaching every day in his classroom.
Life As A FACS Instructor
Wes uses his knowledge and experience as a Family and Consumer Sciences graduate as he develops his FACS curriculum, collaborates with coworkers, and communicates with students and their families. Wes says, “Some days it takes a lot of praying to get through the day with students. I can’t really share my faith with students due to the separation of church and state, but there are other ways. I do have a cross on my desk and it has a teacher’s prayer on it. Sometimes students will pick it up and ask me if I go to church. I will respond yes. Most recently, a student asked if I went ‘like every Sunday’.” I said ‘yes, most times.’ It is the little things, sometimes, that get through to students the most.”
