Esports Scholarship
The Christian Leadership in Esports Scholarships are available to incoming first-year or transfer students at Messiah University who demonstrate active history playing/competing in one of the esports titles Messiah University supports, including League of Legends, Valorant, Overwatch, Smash Ultimate, Rocket League. These leadership awards are valued at $1000-$5000 for the academic year and are renewable.
Preference is given to students who
- demonstrate a history of high-ranking competitive play in their respective title, or have experience and willingness to train to meet team standards
- display positive team-oriented attitudes in line with standards set by Messiah Esports and the standards of Messiah University as a whole
- show initiative to grow in understanding of the esports industry and how to display qualities of Christian leadership within it.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Any new first year or incoming transfer student accepted to Messiah University with an active history playing/competing in one of the esports titles Messiah University supports.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- Admitted first-year and transfer students will complete a brief scholarship application outlining details about their competitive playing and providing links to their playing profiles.
- Applications will be reviewed by the head esports coach upon submission.
- After completing an initial review of application information, the head esports coach will invite and arrange an interview with eligible students.
- Students will receive communication about their selection for the scholarship personally from the head esports coach and will see the scholarship reflected in their online financial aid award.

What is the value of the scholarship?
$1000-$5000 for the full academic year (fall and spring semesters). Scholarships amounts are awarded based on the expected leadership, contribution and impact students will make to the program.
- Team captains - $5000 per academic year ($2500 each semester)
- Starters - $2500 per academic year ($1250 each semester)
- Substitutes/Flex Players - $1000 per academic year ($500 each semester)
Can the scholarship be stacked on existing Messiah merit awards?
Yes, this scholarship may be stacked on existing Messiah merit awards, including the Provost and Messiah Scholarships.
Is this scholarship renewable or a one-time award?
The esports leadership award is renewable as long as the student maintains commitment to the program and satisfactory academic progress.
