Storage Policy
During the beginning of the school year Messiah University Residence Life requires all students who have taken advantage of on-campus storage to participate in mandatory storage take-out. On the first and second days of classes during the fall academic semester between 7 and 9 PM, all residents who have items in storage will be required to remove these items and keep them in their residence hall room, apartment, or house while all storage on campus is cleared and prepared for new storage (In order to clear storage areas, Residence Directors will work with their Resident Assistant staffs to identify and clear storage areas in their buildings appropriately). During this time, eligible residents who wish to continue using storage must reapply for storage privileges and pick up new storage tags at the Residence Life office. In order to take items out of storage, residents must call the on-clock number for the building where their items are stored (see below for on-clock numbers). A resident assistant (RA) will then assist the resident in getting into the building (if needed) and opening the storage closet so items can be removed. RAs should not be expected to assist residents in removing storage, carrying items back to residents' rooms, etc.
On the third and fourth days of classes during the fall academic semester, eligible residents who have applied for storage privileges and have received storage tags will be able to put storage in their designated storage areas between 7 and 9 PM. Residents who wish to do this should call the on-clock number for the building in which they will be storing. An RA will then assist the resident in getting into the building (if needed) and opening the storage closet so items can be put inside. RAs should not be expected to assist residents in carrying storage, etc.
Items that do not have the approved/correct tags from the Residence Life/Housing office will not be accepted for storage is process will repeat itself again as needed at the beginning and end of each semester.
The following items cannot be stored: Empty boxes, furniture of any kind, carpet, lumber, tires, flammable liquids or room furnishings. Due to limited space available, a student can not store more than five boxes, international students can store up to seven boxes.
Residents will not receive a confirmation or approval from these offices and are individually responsible for following up by going to the Residence Life Office to pick up their storage tags
NOTE: Items that remain in storage for more than 30 days after permanently leaving on-campus housing or student status (i.e. transfer, graduation, etc.) will be disposed of after an attempt has been made to contact him/her.
