Fall 2024 | 2nd Wave 4x4 Series Descriptions

Registration for the second wave of 4x4s opens October 15. This series runs October 31, November 7, 14, and 21 from 9:30-10:15am.

Collaboratory  [Bryce Watkins - Frey 070]

Join the Collaboratory as we explore the power of God within our own stories. We will have various speakers share about how God has worked in their life, and often how it relates to their engineering work or missions work.

AROMA  [Rodrigo de Mendoza Barrera - Hitchcock Arena]

Join Messiah’s sports ministry, AROMA, for a time of fellowship and biblical teaching. Sports are a gift from God intended for the glory of His name. Our culture has made sport an idol and we find ourselves often worshiping the gift rather than the giver. Be challenged and encouraged to seek first the kingdom through sports. Be a part of the revolution!

Grief and Loss Group  [John Goddard - Engle Center Conference Room]

This is a 4-session counseling group designed to support your healthy coping and adjustment to loss in a safe and encouraging space. Students will learn about grief while participating in discussions supportive of sharing and connection. Students will be encouraged in identifying pitfalls and pathways in their process of healthy grieving.

Won't You Be My (and God's) Neighbor?  [Ed Arke - Boyer 234]

A time to slow down and reflect on the theology and philosophy of Fred Rogers and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

See Your Faith Anew, reserved for first year BRPS students  [Shelly Skinner - Boyer 322]

Through discussion and story-telling, students will connect with the various fields of study represented by the BRPS department, led by their own faculty members. In so doing, students will engage with and get to know not only their professors but also have the opportunity to build long-lasting, meaningful relationships with fellow students.

Politics in the Bible  [Julia Wittel - Hostetter 113]

This 8-session Bible study explores passages from the Old and New Testaments that will spark discussions about how God’s people engage with issues of power, justice, and political organization. This series isn't meant to confirm everything you already believe about politics nor to convert you to a specific political platform, but rather to help you consider God’s invitation to faithful political engagement in our context.

Immerse: Prophets  [Emily Bingham & Brian Smith - Boyer 235]

Join us as we read through the Old Testament prophetic books this fall! By reading just 10-12 pages per day, you’ll read all the prophetic books in 8 weeks. When we gather for 4x4 meetings, we’ll discuss what we’re reading, ask questions that arise, and share how we’re encountering God through the text. Come experience the joy of regular, communal Scripture-reading!

Digging Deeper: Four Ways to Engage More Intentionally with Scripture, reserved for female students  [Rachel Fleagle - Eisenhower Campus Center Board Room]

In this 4x4, we'll look at four ways to engage more intentionally with God's Word. From Scripture memorization to exegesis Bible studies to praying the Scriptures to looking at how to apply them in our daily lives, each week will be an opportunity to both learn about and practice digging deeper into the most important Book you can ever read.

What Does the Bible Say about Money?  [Zachary Richardson  - Boyer 271]

In this chapel series, we will discuss what the Bible says about money and how we can better steward it. We will also discuss real world applications about savings, investing, and paying off debt.

Lessons from Contemporary Saints  [Philip Graybill - Alexander Auditorium (Frey 110)]

The word “saint” has meant different things in different Christian traditions throughout the ages, but it always includes the idea of living fully in Jesus Christ. In these four weeks, we will learn about four remarkable Saints of our times (the 20th and 21st centuries) from the Orthodox Christian tradition. Through discussing their lives and writings, we will seek to learn how to live more fully in Jesus Christ.

Living a Life of Faith [Stephanie Sechrist - Boyer 330]

This 4x4 is study of scripture that asks us to examine how we live out the faith Jesus is calling us to through four parables.

It's the Green Flags for Me ..., reserved for new students  [Emma Dougherty - Boyer 131]

This series will focus on building healthy relationships for incoming students at Messiah University. We will consider what is behind the green and red flags in our relationships, and how to practice skills to support our friendships and partnerships.

Silent Prayer  [Doug Curry - Hostetter 120]

This 4x4 will provide a quiet, contemplative space for students to pray, reflect, and enjoy God’s presence. Each session will begin with a brief prompt to offer guidance for the time, but the majority of the session will be unstructured, as we take a break from the busyness and noise of our lives to allow God’s spirit to speak to us in stillness and quiet.

The Chosen  [Ethan Kiggins - Parmer Cinema (Boyer 137)]

The Chosen is a historical drama television series about the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. Primarily set in Judaea and Galilee in the 1st century, the series centers on Jesus and the different people who met and followed or otherwise interacted with him. Join us as we continue viewing and discussing season 3 of The Chosen.
