Harrisburg Libraries - An Exclusive Day in the State Capital

You are invited to accompany the Friends of Murray Library on a day trip to Harrisburg's Libraries on June 18, 2025! Enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of the PA State Library, the Archives, and the McCormick Riverfront Library. Vans will depart Eisenhower Circle at 8:45 a.m. with an anticipated return time of 5 p.m.
Agenda:
9:30-10:30 a.m. PA Archives
*Explore the Archives new site with Archivist Aaron McWilliams. As the official repository for
historical documents dating back to the founding of the Commonwealth in 1681, this new
location offers more efficient methods of preserving records well into the future.
11:00-1:15 p.m. McCormick Riverfront Library with catered lunch
*Enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the recently renovated downtown branch of the
Dauphin County Library System. Hear from Director Ryan McCrory and learn more about this
"library reimagined" with resources unique to the community it serves.
2:00-3:00 p.m. State Library
*After a 5-year renovation, the State Library's multi-story main reading room has been restored
to its original detail with ceiling art and mahogany woodwork. Discover this space, along with
the rare books collection, new STEM lab, and the Look Up, Look Out exhibit with contributions
by Messiah University students during our visit.
3:30-4:30 p.m. Midtown Scholar Bookstore & Cafe
Registration includes transportation and catered lunch.
NOTE: If you wish to drive separately in your personal vehicle, parking and navigation will be your responsibility. An agenda and addresses will be provided for registrants who select this option. The registration cost will remain the same.
