Messiah announces its 2018-19 High Center cultural season
Engage the arts and humanities through a special yearlong series of lectures, concerts, and theatrical and dance productions featuring our talented student and faculty performers, as well as distinguished guest lecturers and visiting performing artists. When you visit, you will see (and hear) for yourself why the High Center at Messiah College has quickly become known as one of the acoustically and aesthetically finest performance venues in our region.
Several key events being hosted this year include:
Ad Deum Dance Company: Moving Acts of Redemption - Sept. 14, 8 p.m.
Founded by dancer and choreographer Randall Flinn, Ad Deum is comprised of over 25 professional dancers from across the world. Their mission is to create and perform moving works of dance that touch at the core of human existence, uplifting the soul and transforming the heart.
A Farewell to Arms - Sept. 16, 4 p.m.
The Mendelssohn Piano Trio in collaboration with the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet (CPYB) and Stuart Malina, Artistic Director of the Harrisburg Symphony, as well as clarinetist, Christopher Grymes, will perform a special concert commemorating the centennial of the conclusion of WW I.
Thomas Friedman, "The Big Trends Shaping the World Today: Economics, Technology and Geopolitics" - Nov. 1, 7:30 p.m.
Bestselling author of “The World is Flat” and The New York Times foreign affairs columnist Tom Friedman is renowned for his direct reporting and sophisticated analysis of complex issues facing the world.
"The Tempest" - Nov. 8-11 and 16-18, times vary
Shakespeare’s story of shipwreck, magic, vengeance and reconciliation.
Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia - Jan. 22, 7 p.m.
Join Terell Stafford, artistic director and world-renowned trumpet player, and the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia (JOP), in a concert celebratory concert for the Martin Luther King holiday. Joining JOP will be Rutha Harris, one of the original Freedom Singers, and Messiah’s own gospel choir, United Voices of Praise.
Marian Wright Edelman, "Towards the Common Good: Ending Child Poverty in America" - Feb. 21, 7:30 p.m.
Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund, has been an advocate for disadvantaged Americans for her entire professional life.
