Messiah College Master of Occupational Therapy Program granted ACOTE accreditation
The Messiah College Master of Occupational Therapy program has been granted Accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
“ACOTE accreditation assures students, the educational community, patients, and clinicians and medical personnel that students are receiving a quality education at Messiah College and that the program has met the appropriate approved educational standards,” said Rob Pepper, assistant provost and dean of Messiah College’s School of Graduate Studies.
The program was granted Status of Accreditation for a period of seven years, the longest accreditation period granted to new programs. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. After successful completion of the exam, the individual will be an Occupational Therapist, Registered (OTR).
Messiah College’s Master of Occupational Therapy program is a full-time residential program that began in 2017. The program is located near the main campus at Messiah College at Winding Hill, a state-of-the-art educational center that includes a simulation pediatric lab, full-size apartment for activities of daily living, cadaver lab, and multipurpose lab space for occupational analysis, splinting and assistive technology design. The facility also houses the college’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
Messiah College was the first institution within the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic Region to offer a master of occupational therapy program with a curricular emphasis and integration of occupational therapy competency, faith-based character and the values of diversity and culture.
