Songs By 21st Century American Composers
On Saturday, March 24, at 8 pm in the High Center Recital Hall, voice students of Elaine Henderson will present a recital of art songs by American composers whose compositional styles reflect the more contemporary influences of the 21st century. The program will feature songs by Maury Yeston, Jake Heggie, Ricky Ian Gordon, Ben Moore, Adam Guettel, Zina Goldrich & Marcy Heisler, Nikko Benson, John Bucchino, Jeff Blumenkrantz, and Eric Whitacre. Some of these composers are associated with opera and some with musical theatre, but many are now writing songs that often bridge the gap between the two musical worlds. All of these songs tell stories or reflect on a meaningful life experience. Come listen to these singers as they tell the tales through song.
